Marian Alexopoulos Painter

I was born in Suffolk , UK in 1948.

My early love of art led me to enter Art School at Cambridge in the sixties. From there I went on to attend Leicester University to obtain a teaching degree majoring in Art.

During the early seventies I taught in London before moving to Australia where I found employment  as an Art Advisor with the Victorian Department of Education. I was involved in primary school Art Education for many years.

I have also undertaken some freelance work illustrating for various publications and projects.

Now in retirement, I am actively involved in local art groups: President of the Woodend Art Group and member of the Macedon Ranges Arts Collective.

I regularly exhibit and sell work and have recently held a successful solo exhibition at The Gallery Mt Macedon.

I revel in a variety of media:  acrylic, watercolour, pastel and oil, as well as mixing media. Travelling overseas and visiting major galleries has allowed for plenty of stimulation and inspiration; combining this with our own rich natural environment has supplied me with more than enough subject matter with which to sustain the spirit of creativity.

My particular appreciation of the artists of the twentieth century influences my artistic leanings and engages me in a journey that emphasises instinct  and expression over realist tradition.
