Colleen Weste: Textile Artist

Colleen has been a silk artist for many years, combining a love of colour and spiritual connection to the bush to create individual silk art to wear pieces.

She hand paints on silk with everything starting out as white fabric, using dyeing, overdyeing with French dyes or a shibori resist technique to create colourful patterns and textures on cloth.

The author of the book ‘Silk Painting Step by Step -Techniques and Ideas for Colour and Design’. She also curated during the 2004 International Shibori Exhibition in Melbourne.

With a Grad.Dip. in Textiles Design from RMIT, attendance at master classes in Shibori including a study tour in Japan in 2006 and the World Shibori Symposium in France in 2008, Colleen’s work has been shown in many group exhibitions including WOW in New Zealand.

Colleen ran her own retail outlet in Melbourne for twelve years and now paints from her studio in the bush at Mt Macedon where workshops and classes are offered.
