Peter Ryan: Photographer

In his mid-thirties Peter decided to learn something new every year. How a camera worked was one project. Since then he has read extensively and experimented. He loves to read second hand books from film photographers. They only had paper prints as their medium of expression and he loves the print form. Tonal balance in the print is paramount..

Peter loves the way light washes over the land and love shooting in natural light. Seeing and capturing light is what his photography is all about.

He tries to capture the essence of the place he is visiting rather than just snap the whole scene. In this way the viewer can feel some connection with what I am experiencing.

Peter prints all my own work up to A3+ size. He has a printer in Melbourne that does the larger prints and glass prints. Printing on glass provides a luminance and depth not possible to get on paper.

Peter runs one day photography workshops in Kyneton and also offers a five week lecture series at Macedon Ranges Community Education Centre, Gisborne on photography and a separate series on an introduction to image processing.
